Even occupying only 1.1% of national territory, Santa Catarina has a coast corresponding to 7% of the Brazilian oceanic coastline. The ratio gives an idea of the weighting of marine activities for the state’s economy and of the potential areas for development and international insertion.
Dedication to marine activities is evident, considering that the state has six ports, and four of them are among the ten best in Brazil. In the same way, the naval industry is efficient and highly developed, producing tugs, platforms for oil exploration and leisure boats.
