Among the emerging sectors in Santa Catarina, the automotive industry stands out. It is not by chance that new General Motors and BMW dealerships have been implemented in the state. The new investments reflect the highly developed chain in the manufacture of car parts, as well as the regional strategic position and potential of the local market.
SANTA CATARINA HAS THE 6TH BIGGEST SHARE IN THE NATIONAL FLEET
The local fleet exceeds the 2.5 million-unit milestone, an average of 2.6 habitants per vehicle. The sector already accounts for 4.1% of Santa Catarina’s industrial GDP, and the sector employs more than 15,000 workers.
In 2014, exports totaled more than US$ 490 million – almost 5% of that exported by the country in the sector. The imports, almost US$ 600 million – 3.5% of domestic car imports.
